Keith Negley | In these particular examples, I love the colours and how they meld together at times. The textures are also lovely, as you can see brush marks, blending, and other gritty surfaces. Scale is definitely played with in both of these images, and that's something I'm interested in for my book. Other things: landscapes that span forever, mood, feeling, do objects swamp an area entirely? are they miniscule and lost within the space?
Bryan Schutmaat | from Schutmaat's photography series 'Grays the Mountain Sends' that explores the environment and residents of small mining towns in the American mid-west. I think it's good to look at other creative formats as well as illustration. Photography is often snapshots of real life stories and narratives, so in that sense I think it relates to this project.
I not only love the subject matter and theme, but the subdued colours, and varied compositions (portraits, landscapes, close-ups of objects). I could think about how I could use composition and view point in unconventional ways.
Alice Moloney | illustrations from 'Hotel Alcazar'. The images for this specific project have a painterly appearance with a subtle use of line to highlight certain areas, and I enjoy this combination of methods. The illustrations I have selected are evidence that images can be finalised digitally, in order to change their effect entirely. I will also have to consider how digital treatments could alter any handmade images I make myself.
