Day in the Life | Refinement & Experimentation

Following the development of my first rough ideas, I made sketches of each format on layers of tracing paper. I found it easier to create drafts on tracing paper, refining the pencil sketch each time.

Here is an example of the various stages of drafting, the sketch gradually becomes more put together. I liked this way of working as it was easy to adjust arrangements or details of an image and the surface was nice to draw on too.

I am quite pleased with this sketch, I like how the line work is definite yet has a flowing quality to it. The variation of line weight and the slight marks give character to the image.

As for this drawing I wasn't too keen on how the figures had turned out, but I thought that digital processes may improve the appearance of the line work.

Experimentation

I tested out a few different blending modes and combinations of layer types to see what the effects were. Different modes brought out different aspects of the drawing. I like how you can see the subtleties of the sketch, even where areas have smudged.
