Moving on to developing the chosen theme, I looked at different materials and surfaces to see which would work best for the final outcome. I liked the idea of using bright paper against dark line drawings.
Washes of ink wouldn't work too well with the subject matter of this theme. Because a lot of the illustrations are detailed and the objects themselves are generally unfamiliar, blocky or vague shapes would fail to communicate what the images actually were. This is why I chose to use fineliners in a few sizes, that way there would at least be some variation in the line.

I did some quick mock-ups of title styles just so I could see a few options for how I may present my final design.
The last bit of development was refining my original sketches so I could be sure of their appearance for the final poster. In some cases I briefly considered different arrangements to see what would be most effective.
