David Lynch | Prints and Drawings

When thinking about printmaking and this brief in particular, I remembered the artwork that David Lynch has made. I went to see an exhibition of his work a couple of years ago in Middlesbrough (David Lynch: Naming (2014-15) at MIMA). It was a collection of photography, drawings, as well as some other mixed media pieces.

Although his work isn't strictly made with print techniques, I still think it's worth looking at for me; because of its murky tone and the relationship between word and image.

Some of these examples could very well just be charcoal drawings, however they bear a resemblance to monotype which is something I want to continue using.

Then I found these images which I really like. There is an emphasis on texture and shape/form, but it is done in an interesting way. I have been thinking about how I can enhance my use of line or do something a bit different.

Maybe looking at texture and negative space could be a way for me to do this and move away from just plain line.
