When we first received the briefing for this task I was fairly nervous, the examples shown (Lord Whitney, etc) were all executed in a simple but effective way, where the finer details and finishing touches made a real difference.

So, having never done any art direction-based tasks or prop making I just wanted to have a decent idea and not look like a mug on the big screen..  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Started off with some daft drawings to quickly get down any immediate thoughts. I wanted the tone of the photograph to be weird and subtly disgusting. Simple set up, but with an odd detail or 'mutation'.

Small ideas centered around plant life, growth, strange things growing from a host, moss, pom poms (yes), clusters of little things.

Objects that pushed me towards an idea: house plants, green jumper, watering can prop.

I was thinking of how I could have a small sprout growing from my face. I made masking tape prototypes to begin with..

I tried taping them to my face, rolling up blu-tac, more tape, then looked into liquid latex which I could use to build up 'skin' with tissue.

A small gross test, no paint or cover up yet. Making other small props too.

Setting up a very basic backdrop. Better lighting and a larger space would have been more ideal.

Final photo. It's okay! Just I think that better lighting, and maybe a plain white background would have made the overall image look more put together.
