In previous projects, this time where I'm supposed to figure out the aesthetic, or the visual approach has always been the most agonising. Mainly because it's very much trial and error, and it ends in committing to a 'look' and being stuck with it.
I need to keep in mind the TONE OF VOICE and MOOD I want to convey, as well as TIME CONSTRAINTS (for example, creating a full colour painting for every animation cell would be a lot for the time we have).
General Feedback
Talking to peers in the crit, as well as tutors, I feel reassured that my idea isn't as bad or flimsy as I had thought. They liked the type of humour, as well as small details and threads of narrative that I've tried to bring in.
People also responded well to the GIF storyboards that involved a scene, or an object, as opposed to a full-figure. To me, creating a scene is important because it adds depth to what started off as a drawing. Scenes are subtle alternatives to a full-figure animation.
I'd like to explore this further, and try to build up a 'world' of sorts for my character.
