Composition | Yourself, Elephant, Butterfly

For the second part of composition, looking specifically at framing and arrangement, we had to create an image that included ourselves, an elephant, and a butterfly within the image frame.

These are the very quick rough sketches I made. I found it difficult to squish all of the elements into a set frame! I'm quite bad at scale.

It took a while for me to figure out how I could include all three things, without the image looking too unbalanced.

The final. Unhappy with this one! It's very basic and doesn't show a level of craftsmanship, or skill with ink that I thought the others did. However, I guess it's more subtle as it only hints at there being an elephant, with the trunk instead of the entire creature.

I suppose I also used most of the space quite well. 

Composition is really important! It can elevate an image, change it's meaning, emphasise certain aspects. However it can sometimes be difficult to solve (as I've learned).
