Choosing Editorial

After delivering our presentations this morning I was still a bit confused about which area to decide on for the project. I could see areas in all of them that I enjoyed, but I wanted to make sure I was choosing something that I would like creating work for.

I made a mindmap in my sketchbook to see how much scope each of the three areas could potentially have; listing outcomes and contexts that could be made for and applied to each.

I talked to Ben and he said that editorial could be a way to bring in concept/meaning, which is something I enjoy investigating in my work. I think I was focusing too much on what would be expected of the applied outcomes, ignoring the potential for meaningful designs and illustrations. 

For now, I think I will focus on gathering interesting texts, ideas, and themes that will inform the concept of my work, and I will think about their applied formats at a later date - I wouldn't want these formats to dictate the things I create at this stage.

Although my ideas may begin as a series of editorial illustrations, they could very well progress onto something print or publication based, maybe even bring in aspects of object and environment. I think it's best to keep an open mind for this project.
