Cul-de-Sac - Krzysztof Komeda

Although I plan on doing a few more for the Illustration 12" tracks, I decided to pick this song to submit something for the exhibition. As soon as I heard the song I really liked it, I thought it was funny and weird.

I knew what kind of tone I wanted to go for as soon as I finished listening to the song. I made some quick thumbnails in my book to see if the layout would work...

From doing a series of roughs, I had an idea of the image I wanted to create. The process I used to create the finished design was sort of intuitive. I used cut paper and a white chinagraph pencil. I wanted a quick process that would result in a naive, wonky aesthetic. However the lines were included to stop it from looking too plain and shape-based.

This is my finished sleeve design. I quite like it, even though it was probably the quickest thing I've ever made. It's a bunch of weird kids playing out and dancing around, maybe they're listening to the song too.

I was very decisive when making this, I sort of just let the vibe I wanted to convey and the process of making just decide for me. It was fun, I will definitely create some more.
